My Story:
How I went from
Licensed Professional Counselor
to Passionate Educator:
For as long as I can remember, I have been dedicated to helping others. As a young child, I strongly aspired to become a veterinarian. However, learning about the emotionally complicated nature of the profession caused me to shift career paths, and I decided to instead pursue human healthcare. My academic journey started at Millersville University, wherein I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Minor in Sociology. I went on to earn a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University. With these degrees, I was able to accomplish my goal of becoming a board-certified Licensed Professional Counselor. I got my professional start working alongside survivors of violence as well as individuals with acute and chronic mental illness.
Working with these populations provided me with so much insight into the root causes and systemic issues largely to blame for health adversities. I was simply discontent serving in a treatment capacity when I knew I could do so much more from a preventative approach. At that point, I decided to pursue a Doctorate of Social Science in Prevention Science Degree from Wilmington University. I dedicated my studies to learning how to prevent interpersonal and animal violence, suicide, and dog bites. It was here that my early passion area of veterinary medicine could be blended with my current occupational pursuits. As such, my dissertation research focused on veterinary suicide prevention, with a specific exploration on the systemic influences of higher education. Even after earning a doctorate degree, I continue to invest in my own learning. My current training focus is on completing a Certificate of Education in Animal-Assisted Psychotherapy as well as earning credentials in the Clinical Application of Neuroscience and Working with Trauma.

The extent of my academic history shows learning is something I have always found to be inspiring and empowering. I started EmpowerMind Education and Consultation, LLC to share my passion and educate others about how to lead an enriching life. For me, being my best professional self means intentionally shifting from a treatment provider as a Licensed Professional Counselor to a Passionate Educator who uses the power of learning to empower others, enrich lives, and prevent health adversities.
I'm on a mission to educate and learn from you about topics related to mental health and wellness, such as suicide prevention, burnout and compassion fatigue, student wellness, animal-assisted interventions, self-care, assistance versus emotional support animals, interpersonal and animal violence/violence prevention, dog bite prevention, athlete mental health, and so much more!
My Work:
My reach as an educator has extended far and wide! I have facilitated international speaking engagements, statewide and national conference presentations, as well as webinars across the United States. Thus far, my trainings have been delivered to veterinary businesses and advocacy organizations, universities, counseling practices, nonprofit organizations, as well as county health foundations. To complement my experience as an editor, I have authored a book chapter as well as several scholarly works and served as a peer reviewer for criminology and psychology research journals. In addition to collaborating with IndeVets to publish content related to veterinary suicide prevention, I have been featured in a BBC documentary to promote awareness about the mental health crisis in veterinary medicine.

My Road to Wellness
I couldn't be a health and wellness educator without investing in my own wellbeing!
Above all, I value and cherish the time I dedicate to giving back to my body, mind, and soul. My free time is best spent in nature, alongside my partner and best four-legged companion, Pinella. In addition to incorporating daily intentional movement, I fill up my proverbial cup through reading, writing, doing jigsaw puzzles, going on leisurely car rides, and sipping my favorite frozen mocha beverage while watching reality TV! I especially enjoy reading dog books, psychological thrillers, and self-help literature. I welcome book recommendations anytime!
